Diversity in Reference Intervals and Nondiversity in Decision Limits
The talk, presented by Thomas Streichert, explores the fundamental concepts and distinction between reference intervals (RIs) and clinical decision limits (CDLs) in laboratory medicine, emphasizing the precision and diversity of RIs and why these two concepts must be clearly separated in clinical practice and laboratory reporting. The talk concludes with quality aspects and a call for harmonization and clearer frameworks to establish sustainable RIs and CDLs.
