Registration Then and Now

How has registration for the Labquality Days congress evolved over the decades?

In the 1990s, registering for the congress was a multi-step process that required time and careful attention from participants. The participation fee was paid at a bank using a bank transfer form, which had to be ordered by phone from the office of Laaduntarkkailu Oy (now Labquality). The form was filled in by hand and also included the lectures and programme sessions the participant wished to attend. Registration, therefore, also served as a binding programme selection – flexible movement between parallel sessions was not yet part of the congress experience.

As the 2000s approached, registration gradually began to digitalise. Registration by email became possible in 2005, although fax was still used alongside it as late as 2008. For a time, paper-based and digital channels coexisted, clearly reflecting this transitional period.

In the 2010s, registration moved entirely online. Web forms, electronic payments and automatic confirmations made the process faster and more user-friendly. At the same time, the congress programme became more flexible: participants were able to freely choose lectures and programme tracks on site.

Registration practices aptly reflect both technological development and the growth and internationalisation of the Labquality Days congress. Whereas registration was once a time-consuming manual process, today it is a smooth and largely automated part of the overall congress experience.
