Quantitative laboratory measurements are produced by statistically relating the analytical signal and measurand concentration through a calibration curve. This relationship between analytical signal and measurand concentration can drift or shift ('bias') over time owing to changes in the measurement system. As such, the calibrator requires periodic repeat testing to derive a new set of calibration curve to ensure any analytical drift is appropriately adjusted for. In this lecture, we will explore different calibration practices and how they may affect the quantitative measurements in laboratory.
