Keynote Speakers
The Labquality Days congress is opened and closed by a high-level keynote lecture. The speaker is often from outside the laboratory field, and the topics are chosen to inspire all participants and provide insights they can apply in their own work.
For example, in 1998, the opening keynote was delivered by Minister of Social Affairs and Health Sinikka Mönkäre, who spoke about high-quality laboratory operations in Finland.
“She stated that clinical laboratories play a significant role in Finnish healthcare, both economically and operationally. Participation in quality control is fairly comprehensive, as approximately 90% of laboratories take part in the external quality assessment rounds organised by Labquality Oy.
The Minister also addressed claims raised in public debate regarding shortcomings in the supervision of laboratory quality, noting that such issues should either be corrected or shown to be unfounded. Minister Mönkäre further stated that the operations of our laboratories are generally of a high standard even by international comparison, although there is always room for improvement.
The annual Laaduntarkkailupäivät congress demonstrates a clear commitment to remaining at the forefront of international development. Finally, the Minister remarked that no area of human life seems foreign to Laaduntarkkailupäivät, referring to the title of the following lecture, ‘Should I Lose Weight?’”
